Niche Research For Affiliate Marketing
There are some basic steps in researching for a profitable niche that you should learn from the beginning. Once you have build a few sites the process becomes easier and your self confidence will grow.
Your first niche should be broad enough that you can find several products that can be promoted from your site at once. The niche should be one that has buyers already. And to help in the process the niche should be one that you have some basic knowledge of.
Your Knowledge
Why should you have some basic knowledge of the niche? One thing that other programs and training leave out is that you will need articles. If you have some knowledge of the niche then writing the articles yourself or buying PLR (private label rights) will allow you to fill your site with the the right type of information your future buyers are looking for. This one thing can make you an authority in your niche.
A Buying Niche
This is a simple step that allows you to see the products and services others are selling to those buyers. Go to your favorite search engine and type in the niche, if there are ads on the page then you will know that someone is buying products in that niche. You can go to Amazon and search for your niche and again see just what type of products people are purchasing in that niche. This is a MUST, you need to find a niche that has buyers already.
Niche Not Broad Markets
Choosing a niche within a broad marketing is a simple process. Start with your broad market then work down until you have a niche that meets the two requires above. Here is an example:
Photography. Here you will find that the search engines return about 310,000,000 results for that market. But if you are using Google you can use the Google’s Wonder Wheel to break down that market into smaller niches. (The Wonder Wheel is located on the left side of the screen under Everything)
Click on “Wonder Wheel” and you will see something like the above image appears. You can click on one of the spokes and get more targeted niche markets within your search.
Clicking on “Portrait Photography” takes you to another wheel and if you click on “Outdoor Portrait Photography” on the new wheel you can choose the niche “Outdoor Family Photo Ideas”.
If you take this last niche Outdoor Family Photo Ideas and place quotes around the phrase and search again you will find that the results returned show only about 1,500. Which is a much more manageable market to compete in.
The next step is keyword research and be sure to save Outdoor Family Photo Ideas (or what ever phrase you searched for) because that is your niche, the whole phrase.
